Loco-hauled D-class carriages

Postby croc » Mon Feb 01, 2010 8:38 pm

How about using redundant D-class Wellington suburban carriages as a loco-hauled set? They are soon to be replaced on the Johnsonville line. They always travel paired with a DM class motorised carriage, running on the overhead electric supply.

We could string a lot of D class unmotorised carriages together, pulled by a locomotive (yes I know that is less efficient than motorised railcars/EMUs, but loco-hauled carriages "work" in New Zealand and there seem to be plenty of locos around.)
